The International course ECODIM constituted a comprehensive and multidisciplinary 20-day journey that provided participants with a rich array of knowledge and experiences spanning various facets of marine biosciences.
The main goal of ECODIM is to transfer current knowledge in scientific areas of growing interest, expand intellectual capacity, and promote unbiased thinking, with an emphasis on practical skills development and crucial teamwork for successful collaboration in scientific endeavors.
This is achieved through the guidance of an esteemed instructor team, including experts in microbial diversity, molecular ecology, marine genomics, aquatic symbiosis, bioinformatics, and microbial signal transduction and communication, allowing to addresses questions of biogeochemical, ecological, and phylogenetic interest.
The twelfth version of ECODIM will be held in Chile at the University of Concepción (January 6-7, 2025) and at the San Ignacio del Huinay Foundation (North Patagonia) (January 8-26, 2025).
ECODIM XII will comprise theoretical lectures covering an extensive range of subjects, from biogeochemical cycles and energy fluxes to the future of Next-Generation Sequencing and interkingdom symbiosis. It will also include workshops on instrumentation, providing students with real-world exposure to sampling equipment and hands-on experience in environmental sample collection (on board); the development of self-designed theoretical and practical research projects; wet lab work; bioinformatic analysis (R programming); and team and soft skills development.
ECODIM 2025 will start with an open in-person symposium at the University of Concepción given by invited speakers (also broadcasted through online streaming in real-time), and it will end with a second symposium given by the students, where they will present the results and conclusions of their investigations during the course.
All these resources together will equip students with a powerful toolkit, enabling them to investigate and understand relevant aspects in the field of marine science.
We are waiting for you!
